The Emmy Award winning producer and filmmaker steps into a darker world with Final Judgment, a new action thriller starring her husband, Sean Kanan, the actor known for The Karate Kid III, Cobra Kai and The Bold and the Beautiful.

Some stories begin with a question. Final Judgment begins with a challenge: when the justice system fails, what happens to the person who decides to deliver justice himself?

That question drives Michele Kanan’s new film project, an action thriller centered on Martin Quick, a former elite military special operator imprisoned after killing a criminal during a robbery. Behind bars, Quick earns a law degree and watches his faith in the legal system collapse. He emerges determined to pursue those who evade justice, even as PTSD, a ruthless crime syndicate and a larger conspiracy threaten to turn his mission into something he can no longer control.

The film’s tagline, “When the system fails, he delivers vengeance,” sets the tone. But Quick’s story reaches beyond the promise of action. It places a man trained for combat inside a moral conflict, asking whether revenge can ever repair injustice, or whether it only creates another kind of damage.

Kanan is directing and producing Final Judgment, with Sean Kanan starring as Martin Quick. Their creative partnership brings together Michele’s work behind the camera and Sean’s decades of experience on screen. Audiences know Sean as Mike Barnes, the formidable rival in The Karate Kid III, a role he reprised in Cobra Kai. He is also widely recognized as Deacon Sharpe on CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful. Now, the couple is bringing that familiar screen presence into a new story about trauma, power and the consequences of taking justice into one’s own hands.

For Michele, Final Judgment marks another step in a career shaped by a willingness to take on multiple sides of filmmaking. She is an Emmy Award winning producer, writer and director whose credits include the digital drama STUDiO CiTY, the science fiction feature Colonials, Darkness of Man, ’Til Death Do Us Part, Limelight and the My Trip to the Dark Side films. On Bloodhound, she was credited as producer, executive producer and showrunner. Her work on Bodyman, another action thriller, has also brought her together with Sean and a cast that includes Tom Arnold and Johnathon Schaech.

Her Emmy recognition came through STUDiO CiTY, where she worked as a producer and writer. The series won the 2021 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Limited Drama Series. Kanan also shared the 2020 Indie Series Award for Best Writing, Drama with Lauren de Normandie, and was included among the show’s Emmy nominated writing team. Those honors recognize her work both behind the camera and in shaping the stories audiences saw on screen.

Kanan’s path into entertainment was not a straight line. Before entering film and television, she was raising a family and helping run a medical practice. Her move into filmmaking began when she decided to step outside that established life and make a movie. Since then, she has built experience as a producer, writer and director, pairing the practical demands of production with a clear interest in strong characters and high stakes. She works with Sean through Flip Creative Media and is a member of the Producers Guild of America.

That range matters in Final Judgment. The story asks its filmmaker to hold two energies at once: the forward momentum of an action thriller and the emotional weight of a man trying to live with what he has done. Quick may believe his legal education has given him a clearer view of right and wrong. His descent into vigilantism tests that belief at every turn.

The film also puts Kanan’s creative evolution in focus. From award winning digital drama to independent features and action projects, her work moves across formats while keeping character at its center. With Final Judgment, she enters a world of prisons, crime syndicates and hard choices, giving its central conflict a human face.
